Minchinhampton - Nkokoto Link

For over 25 years the Minchinhampton - Nkokoto Link has been able to provide the village of Nkokoto with some major items of equipment including a maize milling machine, oxen for ploughing purposes, carpentry tools and sports and educational equipment for schools.
The Link has also supplied bicycles for use by outreach workers, medical supplies for the clinic and has sponsored students at the nearby Urambo Folk Development college in subjects such as tailoring, carpentry, masonry and mechanics.

Over the years a few visits have been arranged largely funded independently of our Link. At the end of 2003, the headmaster of Minchinhampton school, Mr. Rod Harris paid a valuable visit to Nkokoto - his memories will be posted here.

In October 2007 Ian Lever visited and his report is here.

A major project over the years has been the funding of raw materials to improve and increase the number of shallow wells serving the village with clean water. We are currently investigating the provision of a bore hole as the population of the village grows and the water table falls.
Our latest project is to provide mosquito nets and vitamins for the children of the village and we expect to hear that these are in place very soon.
Regular contact is maintained with village officials and there are exchanges of letters, drawings and paintings with Nkokoto village schools. Several members of our current committee have lived in Africa for some part of their lives and in fact two members are ex Tanzanian VSO personnel so a wealth of experience is represented
